Where every image goes, and how it is named

A plate is a figure. A scene is a moment that figure was in. The register could describe the first and had no word for the second, so a file called gw-winter was filed as a man named gw missing his terminal plate. He was George Washington at Valley Forge.

The register is copied here by the Glass Gate on every push to Amenti.live — if it is missing, the gate did not run or the copy step is not publishing it.

The grammar

The subdirectory keeps a scene out of the plate grammar, which would otherwise read gw-winter-card.jpg as owner gw, variant winter.
The double hyphen splits owner from moment — a single one cannot, because nearly every roster key already contains a hyphen.
A bare owner--tag.jpg with no variant is the lead, and is the common case.

There is no codex variant and there was never meant to be one. An earlier register listed it as a required fourth and duly reported 0 of 51 — a gap that existed only because the checker had invented the thing it was checking for. The codex reuses -terminal.

A scene does not need its figure in the frame. Valley Forge without Washington in it is still his scene; the empty Senate after Caesar leaves is still his. Ownership is editorial — the figure whose story the image serves — and depiction has nothing to do with it. Nothing here inspects the picture, because nothing could.
